The Loneliness Epidemic

Even Today's Most Modern Women Experience Loneliness. This can change! In our hyper-connected world, it may seem paradoxical that loneliness continues to be a pervasive issue, especially among women in midlife and beyond. According to a study by You.Gov, women are more likely to report feeling lonely than men, with 72% of women saying they feel lonely at times compared to 60% of men. Despite the advances in technology and social media, many modern women find themselves grappling with feelings of isolation, disconnection and feeling invisible. But Mod.Life is setting out to change this. This phenomenon spans across continents, affecting women in the USA, Canada, Europe, and Asia. But Mod.Life means you can live a life of possibility at ANY age! It's all in our mindset.

The Loneliness Epidemic

USA and Canada

In North America, the rise of female loneliness is partly attributed to societal pressures and changing social norms. Women often feel the need to excel in every aspect of life - career, family, friendships, and personal growth. “It is important to focus on business and personal growth in ways that are most important to you”, says Jennifer Abernethy Founder of Mod.Life.

Europe

In European countries, the struggle against loneliness is ongoing, even for those in long-term relationships. A reader from Spain shared her experience of remaining single until 45 while living in New York, highlighting how not conforming to traditional paths of marriage and motherhood can lead to feeling isolated. The pressure of a "perfect life" is amplified by social media, and is another contributing factor. Women are more likely to compare themselves to others, intensifying feelings of inadequacy and loneliness. Don't compare.

Managing Loneliness

Despite these challenges, modern women globally are finding ways to combat loneliness:

  1. Proactive Social Connections: Women are increasingly seeking out social connections through various activities:

  • Joining gym classes or sports clubs;

  • Participating in coffee shop meetups;

  • Engaging with spiritual or religious groups;

  • Joining hiking or outdoor adventure clubs;

  • Participating in photography or music groups

  • Get out in nature regularly.

2. Professional Networks: Some women are turning to co-working spaces to be among people.

3. Therapy and Self-Awareness: Many women find that therapy helps them develop greater self-awareness and learn to manage their mindset. Get adequate sleep. Hydrate.

4. Redefining Success: Instead of opting out of leadership positions, some women are reimagining what success looks like for them!

5. Digital Communities: While social media can contribute to feelings of isolation, it can also be a tool for connection when used mindfully. Online support groups and forums can provide a sense of community. Be sure to join our Facebook page Modern Women 49+ on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/groups/3148768845163391
